Fourth out of six in Liberty A Class.  Nothing to be ashamed of.  I can't argue about our results.  As I told some of you at the show while we were waiting for awards, there were about five bands that we were awefully close to.  I couldn't have picked the order for those bands.  I DO have a problem with the band that won.  I don't think any band whose pit consists of a bass, a guitar, SEVERAL electric pianos, and where timpani is the only percussive instrument should be allowed to compete with all that crap.  I mean, they sound like they have more strings than saxes.  What does that tell you?

p.s. - Just because we were in A Class instead of Open Class, don't think that makes our achievments any lower.  Being in Liberty A instead of Liberty Open didn't put us up against lesser bands, just smaller bands closer to us in size.  I watched Spring Grove.  It's not that they're that much better than us.  They're just much bigger than us.  And when you have a larger band you can achieve greater effect scores.  That's just the way it is.  Even drum corps has an Open Class and an A Class.  The only seperation is size.  Not talent.  Last year we were 7th in American Open.  This year we were 4th in Liberty A.  For what it's worth, I thought this year's show was much more complete in the sense of bringing all the musical and visual elements together.  The drumline was much improved from the previous year and we had a pit feature this year that was very effective!  That's something new for us.  I want to continue to grow our percussion sections next year.  The color guard was bigger and added more color and presence to our field production.  Overall, I'd have to say that marching was better.  Sets were more readable and techinique as a whole was better.  Perfect?  No, of course not.  But getting better.  You guys performed this year with more confidence than ever before.  I know change is always weird, but you guys have to have faith in us and trust that what we're doing as a staff is making you better.  Rome wasn't built in a day.  Keep the faith and the results will show.
